Poem of the Day #17

Dime Time

Pay phone rings.
A woman answers. Who
will be on the other end to talk to?
She hears her heart beating.

Library typing room.
A man brings a bag of dimes
Ten cents a half-hour
writes a novel on $9.80.

Dime novel pulp
is devoured by the woman.
Transplants her to fantasy
only a planet away.

Inspired by Ray Bradbury, who wrote Fahrenheit 451 at the UCLA Library on dime fed typewriters.
